Hong Kong – As China continues to exert its influence on its neighbors, Mission Cry and its partners feel the importance of distributing Scripture now.

Seizing Opportunities to Share the Word of God

Hong Kong’s long history with China has been back in focus as China has tightened its grip over the last few years. The freedoms held by those living in Hong Kong diminished in 2020 with China’s security laws restricting government criticism. Recently China also has faced conflict with Japan and Taiwan. Some Mission Cry partners worry this will impact the ability to import Christian materials.

Jason Woolford with Mission Cry says that, despite some of the concerns, as of now Hong Kong is still a crossroads for many people. There is great opportunity there to share the Gospel. “We’re asking people to come alongside of us and help sponsor a container – to send that container. It’s about $11,000, but it sends, or has in it, about a half a million dollars’ worth of free Bibles and Christian books, reaching well over 30,000 people with the Word of God. Then you multiply that every book that’s given, it’s then read by 20 people. And so, what an incredible opportunity we have.”

Reaching People Whatever Their Needs

Mission Cry sends donated items that cover a wide range of reading levels and ministry needs. The container will offer everything from children’s Sunday school materials and Bibles to seminary materials. They strive to share Gospel materials that engage a variety of people.

“We’re meeting the needs of those that aren’t saved, those that are brand new believers, to those that want to go to the next level. And then of course training up the next generation of believers, and God willing, evangelists.”

Woolford says that because of the urgency of their partners, Mission Cry hopes to send the container as soon as possible. In combination with the container sent earlier this year, they pray God really works in China.

“As soon as we get the funds, we will send the container. As a matter of fact, we’re sending the container regardless. We’re doing it on faith and good credit and just believing God. So, we are hoping to get this container out in the next two to three weeks till it lands this year.”

Join the Work

While they act on faith, Woolford says that they do need the partnership of God’s people. Mission Cry operates based on the generosity of the Church, from the donated materials to the funds to send such massive containers. This allows them to give the Word of God freely to people all over the world. Currently, Mission Cry has sent materials valued at over 500 million dollars to 180 nations at no cost to recipients.

He asks for partnership and prayer for funds as they send this container. He also asks for prayer for the Church in China. “First and foremost, [we] need to pray that God would protect our brothers and sisters that are delivering, that are teaching, that are doing these things. That in some cases, especially in mainland China, could cost them their life, their family, their income, everything. And yet, they continue to press forward.”
